How this calculator works
For a rectangular room, multiply length by width after converting both measurements to the same unit. The result is an estimate and may vary with the product, site conditions, measurement accuracy and installation method.
Before you use the estimate
- Measure the area carefully and keep units consistent.
- Review any waste allowance and material coverage assumptions.
- Check the product packaging or supplier specifications before purchasing.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the square footage of a room?
Multiply length by width, both in feet — a 12×15 ft room is 180 sq ft. For L-shaped rooms, split them into rectangles and add the areas; our measuring guide walks through it.
How many square feet are in a square yard?
9 square feet. The calculator shows square feet, square yards and square meters automatically.
Should I measure in feet or inches?
Either — use the ft/m toggle above. For flooring, measure wall to wall at floor level and note any alcoves separately.
